Welcome…

Welcome to Bella Grey

Hello — and welcome.

I’m DT Washington, and this is my little corner of the internet.

Bella Grey has been living in my head rent-free for a long time now. The original rental agreement was ripped up years ago, and she’s been freeloading ever since. At some point, I realized the only way to deal with that was to finally give her a proper home.

I always envisioned Bella Grey as a comic strip, not a traditional comic book. I love both formats, but comic strips have always been especially close to my heart. Growing up, I was drawn to strips that blended character, mystery, and sophistication — stories that trusted the reader to stay with them over time.

Some of my favorites were Blondie (Chic Young, later Dean Young), Rip Kirby (Alex Raymond), Friday Foster (Jorge Longarón), and Modesty Blaise (Jim Holdaway). Those strips proved you could tell smart, serialized stories in small, deliberate beats — and that idea never left me.

Bella herself really began to take shape during the pandemic. I wanted to create a story centered on an investigative reporter with a background that actually mattered — someone whose past informed how she approached cases, people, and power. That’s how Bella became a former FBI criminal profiler turned investigative journalist.

The strip first launched on Patreon in 2022. Since then, I’ve continued developing Bella, her world, and the kind of stories I want to tell through her. With this site, I’m beginning by reposting Season One: The Ring Finger Murders— the first complete case.

You’ll see the progression as you read: experimentation, course correction, and growth. This is me learning in public — improving my writing, visual storytelling, and illustration as the strip finds its voice.

Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you stick around — and ride with me through Brighthollow.
